climbing scandinavia’s roof

I’m well into the Scottish munros, but as the family gets older and I get more time, I decided a challenge nearer home would be worth considering: the Scandinavian 2000ers – that is Norwegian and Swedish mountains over 2000m high.

There are, according to wikipedia, 186 of them in Norway alone where there is a height of at least 50m between nearest tops.I’ve done one so far. But I love visiting Norway, so this seems like a fun game to play. Let’s call this another long book to keep track as I go..

This site is a handy map of the Norwegian hills, based on the glittertind publishing guidebooks (in Norwegian only) and there is a good english site, though sadly the promised guidebook series do not appear to be available any longer.

Sweden has 12 peaks over 2000m, so a little more manageable, though apparently several of them require technical climbing expertise – so I may have to brush up on my rock climbing skill..
