50 days of clearing up.

There are are 129 days of the year left, with various travels and work I can’t do a full 100 days, but let’s see how much junk I can be rid of before Christmas. We start with 1 item on the first day, 2 on the next and so forth to 10 items. And then start back at 1 again. So 10 times 10 days. Let’s see how we get on.

Day 1 2024-08-25

A set of books, sold on the Saxo app, does this count? It’s leaving the house. It counts.

Day 2 2024-08-26

Two boxes with watch straps in, sorted and chucked

Day 3 2024-08-27

2 piles of old newspapers and an ancient frying pan. Recycled.

Day 4 2024-08-28

A jigsaw puzzle and a colouring game donated to a kids charity shop, collectable cards from Christmas and a pile of old homework recycled

Day 5 2024-08-29

A maths practice book (not completed) – donated to charity, a glass candle holder, also donated. A cardboard dinosaur and diverse paper and plastic recycled, a pot of plastic toys, also recycled.

Day 6 2024 -08-30

More books today: one sold, 4 taken to the office library, 1 donated to kids charity shop pile

Day 7 2024-08-31

Saturday so a cleaning and tidying day anyway, particularly pleased by 3 broken porcelain items which I fixed with my kintsugi set and 2 packs of seeds removed by simple expedient of planting them. Remaining 2 things were 2 pairs of shoes, too small and broken for kids or anyone else to wear…

Day 8 2024-09-01

Sorted through my mending pile to see what was realistic to fix. Got rid of: 1 pair leather boots, 2 rucksacks, 3 old shopping bags and 2 t-shirts. Mostly all gone to recycling. The family room is starting to actually be quite a pleasant place to be. Especially as I’ve sorted through the mending and now have much better oversight. Hopefully soon to be repaired (a personal aim this year was to finally get rid of it).

Day 9 2024-09-02

Spent yesterday sorting out a pile of beautiful coats inherited from in-laws. Now all posted on vinted not sure if it counts though so day 9 was all about the books again. 6 more taken to the office library. And 2 coats and an old pair of trousers, alas destroyed by the moths, put out for recycling.

Day 10 2024-09-03

Going to be a challenging week as I’m busy with a conference, however, I sold my first item on vinted! So that’s going on the list for today… 1 coat, a box, a card and some old packaging recycled in a oner.

Day 11 2024-09-07

Back to 1 item but also adding the 6 I didn’t quite get to on day 10 so 7 items total. Broken sunglasses, junk mail, a pile of old magazines in the donate pile, a book I sold, some old scruffy artworks the kids made but no longer wanted. I also decided to add digital clean-up to the minimalism pile…

A break: too much work travel. But a new aim is 15 items a week, every week, ideally on a Saturday.
